They say, in golf, you can never win if you only focus on hitting longer tee shots for the gallery.
Isn’t it the same in the game of life that we play every day?
Are we focused too much on our tee shots? The crowds cheering for us? Our shots crossing the 300-yards mark?
What about the rest of the game? Can you win the game by hitting long tee shots only?
Sometimes we are too focused on one aspect of life that we forget the other – equally important – aspects.
In golf, a 300-yard tee-shot and a 6-inch putt carry the same value – one stroke, yet most golfers focus only on the tee shots. Yes, short game takes a lot of practice that no one can see, but it does give you the edge to win the game.
Lets see which game are you focused on:
- Time to work hard and long on succeeding in your career, business etc.
- Time to celebrate your success with your loved ones.
- Time for play. Hanging out with your spouse/partner.
- Being with friends where you can be you – without pretense.
- Time for yourself: For your body, mind & inner peace.
- A nice movie? A good book? Walk in the park?
- Time without your cellphone?
- Time for leisure. Time for … ‘doing’ nothing.
I am sure you checked all the above boxes. Kudos to you!
But, if you didn’t, and are using the same age-old excuses “there will be enough time for these things when I achieve this, or finish that … “.
Let me tell you, I had a near-death experience 6 years ago. They had to stop my heart for 45-minutes to put a valve in my aorta (main artery) and it took a 12-hour surgery to get me back to this beautiful world. And I always thought ‘I have enough time…’.
I have known friends & clients so busy creating a good life for their family that they lose track of the very family for whom they were doing it all.
